Governance

The Western Iowa Journalism Foundation (WIJF) was developed as a public charity under IRC Section 501(c)(3) and is independently governed by a volunteer board of directors. The board is currently comprised of seven individuals with diverse occupations, ages, and experiences. The ability to bring multiple perspectives to strategic discussions allows for effective board governance. The WIJF governing body establishes direction and provides all oversight for the nonprofit organization. Furthermore, the board ensures that a contracted executive director is appropriately managing the organization and completing tasks that fulfil WIJF’s mission. Board meetings are held monthly, and a quorum must be present for the transaction of business. 

 

 

Transparency

The Western Iowa Journalism Foundation conducts business in a transparent way, consistent with our charitable purposes. The following policies were developed and approved by the board of directors to ensure the highest level of accountability and transparency:

Financial Information

Each year, the Western Iowa Journalism Foundation files a 990 with the IRS to share information with the public about our fundraising and grantmaking programs. That financial information is easily accessible here, or through a search on Candid.
